On May 4, just 8days ahead of Buddha's birthday, the lantern procession which is one of the traditional events was held in Jongno. Although the weather was cloudy and windy, the festival had a constant stream of visitors who wanted to see the various colorful lanterns. There were many Buddhist college students in the parade including DongGuk University(DGU).
The DGU's procession was hosted by Student Services. There were students from College of Buddhist Studies, College of Life resource Science, and DongGuk University BUD (DUBUD), and students who help foreign students. There were approximately 200 students in the lantern parade. After gathering near Jeonggakwon on campus, every student wore the orange-colored university uniform and received the lotus-shaped lantern. Then they joined a parade at Dongdaemun, following after a large size of elephant-shaped lantern: The elephant is the mascot of DGU.
One of the students who took part in this event as a DUBUD's member said that she was surprised by people walking in the road, blocking the traffic. She also added that she was pleased to be a part of an event which is Korean tradition.
