On Aug. 31, Journal of Buddhist Textual Studies was published in Korean for the first time by the Korean Buddhist Research Institute (KBRI) at DU.
The KBRI started to translate the original Sanskrit and Tibetan text into Korean last November. Prof. Gwon ki-jong, chairperson of KBRI, stressed that the publication of the Korean version of the Journal is an unprecedented event in the history of Korean Buddhism.
Prof. Gwon also said, "Translation and publication of the Journal is fundamental to understand and propagate Buddhism. It can be compared with mathematics in the field of science and engineering." He expects that the Journal will give Buddhist researchers a better understanding of the methodology of Buddhism.
The KBRI is scheduled to publish the Journal twice a year, in June and December. Prof. Gwon said that the publication of the Journal will continue so as to establish a better understanding of Buddhism as well as a modern interpretation of the religion.
