Yesterday (21st), it was found that our school’s computer system was paralyzed after being attacked by ransomware. From the morning of this day, Dongguk University’s website, faculty’s internal network, and web mail have not been accessible. The school reportedly received an email through a hacker and confirmed the ransomware attack. It is said that there were no specific details such as financial demands in the email.
Therefore, the computer department held an emergency policy committee meeting yesterday to deal with the situation. It is believed that it will take at least 48 hours to recover the system from ransomware, and even if it is restored, it is not certain how much recovery rate will be. The computer department sent a notice to faculty and staff to inform them that the computer network was not available. An official at Dongguk University said, “I know that it was attacked by ransomware early this morning. There is a lot of inconvenience because I cannot use the computer network.”
The inconvenience of students is increasing as the school website goes down. Many students had to use the internal network because it was the day when the final exam results for the second semester were closed. There were many students who felt frustrated as they waited without doing anything due to the school’s poor administrative system, saying that they expected their grades to be announced tomorrow.
Therefore, Dongguk University is considering restoring the computer system as soon as possible and extending the grade correction period.
