The ceremony included the chief director, President Song Suk-ku, former President Hwang Soo-young, faculty, students and seven Japanese university presidents and their 13 delegates.
At the ceremony, many prizes were given to professors by the president in honor of their meritorious deeds, such as long-term services, distinguished services and excellent research achievements.
After the awards, the president gave a congratulatory address. "Each member of DU has a responsibility to establish further the identity of DU and to accomplish their mission for the growth of DU," he said.
At the end of the ceremony, the Pohyawn-posal Elephant Statue representing Buddhism, the foundational spirit of DU, was unveiled on a circular lawn in the quadrangle. The elephant family is the work of Cho Seung-hwan, a professor in the College of Arts.
