Dongguk University held a spring graduation ceremony in the middle auditorium on the third floor of the main building from 11P.M. on February 17th. As of February 3rd, 2022, the number of people eligible for the degree was 2926, with 59 attending the middle auditorium including 2,867 who didn’t attend the middle auditorium, all received degrees . In the case of the graduation ceremony held in the middle auditorium, 59 representatives from each degree or college attended and it was also simultaneously screened on Youtube live under Dongguk University’s official account. The ceremony was done in the following order: the opening ceremony, Buddhist most basic ceremony, the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the national anthem, college graduate report, meal, hosts’ greeting, greetings to express gratitude, congratulations, awards, school song singing, and memorizing the four common large vows of Bodhisattva and closing ceremony. Except for those who attend the middle auditorium, all graduates of undergraduate, general, and specialized or special graduate schools’ individual graduation ceremony was conducted in real-time on the online Webex as well as offline with accompanying organizers according to quarantine rules.
On the day of the graduation ceremony, those eligible to attend the middle auditorium were able to receive a certificate awarded in recognition of their achievements at the university by those who studied in a specific field professionally and went through a certain course. In the case of degree uniforms, in order to prevent contact with a large number of people, people should visit the relevant and assigned period between 17th and 25th and rent them from each college and return them at designated places for each period. In addition, for the convenience of degree recipients, it was a principle for school work-related officials to return degree uniforms to the collective facility safety team after the entire rental period is over.
Kim Ji-min, the 51st editor of The Dongguk Post, majored in the department of International Trade at Dongguk University, set an example for others for her sincere attitude and excellent performance while attending university and was honored to win the Achievement Award. She was happy to graduate but sad at the same time since, she could not meet many people due to the exceptional and limited situation of COVID-19. She also hoped there would be a day when she could see The Dongguk Post juniors face-to-face.
A total of four photo zones were installed and operated in three places. Two in front of the Paljeongdo, one in front of the Social Science Building, and the last one in front of the Hyehwa Hall for about 16 days from February 10th to 25th. To prevent contact with a large number of people, it was also necessary and required to set the visit period for each college and graduate school.
In the ceremony, masks must be worn when visiting schools to receive certificates and take commemorative photos. In addition, when taking commemorative photos, the rules of conduct should be observed so as not to violate the quarantine guidelines. COVID-19 related quarantine rules must be followed, and it was essential to refrain from visiting if there were health problems such as fever and cough and recent overseas immigration history.
