Baseball player Koo Ja-wook (Samsung Lions)’s “Dongguk Construction Scholarship” fund delivery ceremony was held on January 21st, 2022 in the conference room of the Construction Committee on the fifth floor of the Dongguk University’s main building. The event was attended by officials such as Ven Don Kwan Sunim, head of the founding committee, Ven Don Myung Sunim, head of Eunhaesa Temple, baseball player Koo Ja-wook, and Yoon Sung-yee, the president of Dongguk University.
Ven Don Kwan Sunim said, “Koo is a famous donation angel with a beautiful heart. He is a player who is donating to help wherever someone is in need, and I am so proud as a Buddhist that he delivers scholarship funds to Dongguk University. Everyone will pray for his better career next year.” Along with, he thanked Koo for delivering the scholarship fund.
Koo also said, “I am so honored to deliver the scholarship fund to Dongguk University through my connection with Ven Don Myeong Sunim. I hope it will be used in a good way for students as it is a scholarship fund from an educational institution.”
In addition, Koo hopes the Scholarship Fund will help students in need. He also said, “Sports is important in terms of physical strength, but also in mental aspect. So, whenever I had a hard time, I visited Eunhaesa Temple and talked with the Sunims to overcome the difficulties, and I was able to develop to be a good player because they always encouraged me whenever I had a hard time.” Koo also expressed his gratitude to the Buddhist Foundation.
Koo Ja-wook’s beautiful heart is well conveyed to students, raising expectations for the future, in which many students will run toward their dreams through his scholarship funds.
