   In April 25th to May 9th, 2021,  University Basketball U-League hosted by 2021 Korea University Basketball Federation (KUSF), was held in West Suwon Chil-bo Gymnasium. There were no spectators in the gymnasium, due to social distancing. Instead, the games were available to watch on YouTube. There were 15 teams that advanced to the first division. Dongguk University’s basketball team was one of the 15 teams, and showed remarkable plays in this league.

   All of the university basketball teams had difficulty with training due to COVID-19. The basketball team of Dongguk University could not go on off-season training, nor enough training in the university gym. However, the new manager, Lee Ho-geun came back to Dongguk University in 13 years and tried hard to recover the team’s condition. He said, “Dongguk University basketball team concentrated on defense and a quick offense switch after a rebound. Our team focused on speed.”

   On April 26th, Dongguk University basketball team beat Kyung Hee University with 79 points. On 28th, the team lost the game against Korea University with 80 points, but won greatly at the next game on April 30th with Sangmyung University with 90 points. After these three games, Dongguk University basketball team advanced to the final tournament. On May 2nd, they reached the semi-finals by winning the game with Konkuk University with 79 points. Also, on May 3rd, the team beat Dankook University with 94 points and got into the final match. After the final game with Yonsei University on May 3rd, Dongguk University basketball team ranked second place in the league.

   Dongguk University’s basketball team have made the best record since the team’s establishment. Lee Seung-hoon, the guard of Dongguk University᾽s basketball team, said, “I am happy and proud of the result, which is the second place, of this league. In fact, the goal was to win the first place, and it is a shame not to win it. We will try harder to get a better record next time. The intense game with Konkuk University and the last period with Dankook University were the most unforgettable scenes in this league. I also cannot forget the game when I got injured.” Lee also mentioned the no spectator games. He said, “It was sad that no one could watch the game on the spot. However, I was not nervous when playing games because they just felt like practice games, and perhaps, I could play better due to this reason.”

   Dongguk University’s basketball team players revealed their strong ambitions about winning the first place in the next league. They also want the team, and the juniors of the future team to continue a great basketball team.
