Russian Translation of Samguk-Sagi

A special lecture, "Russian Translation of Samguk-Sagi," was held by the Graduate School of International Affairs and Information in the seminar room of the Academic Cultural Center on May 16.
This lecture was given by Mikhail N. Pak, currently a professor of Moscow State University, Russia. "I spent most of my life translating Samguk-Sagi into Russian. Samguk-Sagi is an important historical record of early Korean culture. So we made every effort to present its exact meaning," he said.
With its long history, Samguk-Sagi, compiled in 1145, is an existing monument of Korean culture. And it is generally accepted as an outstanding masterpiece of Korean historical thought.
This translation work became the first and still remains the only translation of a classic Korean historical text into a European language. This work is also regarded as a milestone in the development of Korean studies and Oriental studies in Russia.
At the end of the seminar, Prof. Pak added, "This translation is the start of Korean studies research in Russia. I do hope that this translation will be of some help to those who are interested in the history of Korea."
