The president of alumnus is giving a speech for students of Dongguk University to celebrate their Graduation /Photograph by Lee Da-young

   The 2019 fall graduation ceremony that took place in August was successfully completed. It was held in the Main Hall, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22nd. In this graduation ceremony, 1,683 students of Dongguk University received Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor’s degree.

   First, after opening, President and chairman of Dongguk University addressed for students. Yoon Sung-yee, the President of Dongguk University said “I want you to always remember that ‘youth’ and ‘passion’ are alive and breathing in your heart.” He also mentioned the story of BTS, who are not from big agency but dominate the music charts of the world, to emphasize the skills and efforts that were behind the success. After his address, Ven Bup San sunim, the chairman of Dongguk University said “In the middle of an unknown situation, let’s empty our mind at this moment and I hope the wisdom of glory always be with your new beginning.” As such, both of them praised the students for their hard work so far, and encouraged them for their future.

   The followings were honorary doctorate of Philosophy, achievement award and conferment of degree was the last. On this ceremony, Lee Keun-chang, CEO of Hanyang Steel Plaza, received an honorary doctorate of Philosophy, which is given to the one who donates money to school and makes a great contribution to the society. Although Dongguk University is not his alma mater, he received honor doctorate of Philosophy. He gave 500 million won as power generation funds with the thought that Dongguk University is the best place to raise Buddha’s disciples. He also contributed greatly to job creation and economic development through Hanyang Steel Plaza with Korea’s best technological skills. He even set up a drive to give back to society and the nation since all of the profits came from society. Actually, he donates to social welfare institution for nine million won every month.

   Eight students received achievement award on this ceremony and then the final conferment of degree was progressed. After ceremony finished, many students who are putting on diploma suit and graduation cap took picture with their family and colleagues.
