On July 29th to July 31th, Donggukians were able to pre-applying lecture, which is to apply lecture that one wants before class registration day. However, there was an issue regarding this pre-applying lecture since the professors of lots of lectures were not suggested. As to this problem, many students expressed their dissatisfaction. According to Jung Da-woon, the student of the Department of the Advertisement and Public Relationships, “who the professor is” really matters in the application when applying lecture. Since the content and “the way class is taught” vary according to professor.
Then, why did not the school announce the name of the instructor? The General Student Council (GSC) delivered a question about this reason and if it was possible to announce the instructor before the day of pre-applying lecture on July 25th. School answered on July 29th, which was the pre-applying lecture day. Their reason was as following. First, the manual of the Ministry of Education on the “Instructor Act,” was introduced. It was newly created law to focus on the protection of lecturers’ identity and improvement of treatment. Since the poor treatment of part-time lecturers and employment issues became the focus of attention. However, the manual arrived at the end of June, even if the university needed time to reflect this manual. It was confirmed that manual was reflected in early July. As a result, there were problems over Instructor recruitment.
Instructor recruitment is required to go through a complex and important process. Therefore the university start to hire instructors before pre-applying lecture day. However it was completed on August 9th, which was after pre-applying lecture day. That is why the university were unable to announce the name of the instructor during that period. As to this, Jung Da-woon added “I cannot understand that the name of instructor was missing. I think it would have been better if school had delayed application for the lecture till instructors are confirmed.”
Meanwhile, there are some students who insist that this is not because of “Instructor Act,” but the school. That is, the reason why the name of instructor was not informed is that the school’s fault. For example, the college of Social Science uploaded their opinion on Social Network Service (SNS) saying, “We asked for a plan for the implementation of the ‘Instructor Act’ in order to ensure that the students’ rights to take classes are not violated, but the school did not respond even though it had enough time.” They added, “Also the school did not share the situation about the instructor recruitment process properly, which caused students became confused.” Knowing that even after pre-applying lecture, 55 out of 160 major lectures of college of Social Science were not informed the instructor, as for students, this is an absurd situation.
