On the campus, there are a lot of posters put on the wall about direct election system of the president of Dongguk University. This year, there will be a president election of Dongguk University. However, few students are aware of this, since the election is still following the indirect system. As the president administers all of the works in school, it is an absolute nonsense that students’ opinions virtually are not reflected in the president election.

   It has been a long time since the General Student Council (GSC) and task force (TF) team “DOTE,” which claims direct election system of the president and reorganization of the board of directors, strived to meet those demands of reflecting public opinions. This June, they gathered about 1,500 signatures from Donggukians and held a talk concert to have a discussion with students who are concerned about the president election system. Moreover, right before the summer break, DOTE had a meeting with the Office of Student Services twice.    

   However, in this semester, there is nothing noticeable about direct election. Due to the unilateral decision system of the board of directors, the only way that Donggukians and the GSC can do is to consistently convey the necessity of the direct election system to the students. If the board of directors does not reply for having a conversation with students, it is nearly impossible to move forward to the next step. Meanwhile, on October 11th, the GSC announced that the steering committee of the GSC is now going to take on the DOTE’s activity. With only three months left in 2018, the question is, are there enough time to achieve what we want.
