On August 31st, in front of the Main Hall, KungKwang, the acting feminist group, held a press conference to demand the Human Rights Center to accept ten requirements. Furthermore, they have continuously posted banners and public statements all over the campus, criticizing the Human Rights Center’s exclusive management and confidential process.

   KungKwang demanded the additional number of students in the operating committee, which was formed to discuss the revision of regulation, to properly reflect the Donggukians’ opinions. They also urged that the investigation of the process should be notified to the public in order to provide an opportunity to reflect the dreadful event. Yun Won-Jeong, the Chairperson of the General Coed Student Council (GCSC), informed, “I have received a message from the Human Rights Center that they’re trying to come up with a solution. In addition, I have requested a meeting with the heads of the operating committee.” The GCSC expressed determination of uniting with other universities on this issue to establish democratic Human Rights Center in the near future.

   However, the Human Rights Center posed a different stance on this issue. “I believe there has been a misunderstanding among students,” said the Lee So-dam, an employee of the Human Rights Center who is in charge of counseling. The Human Rights Center contradicted the criticizing statements of KungKwang one by one. The number of students in the operating committee is abiding by the official rules of the center. Furthermore, the student’s proposal can be reflected in other communication methods like a website that the Human Rights Center is running since September. In addition, the anonymous investigation process of sexual assault case is necessary to protect the victim’s identity and prevent a secondary damage.

   The Lee So-dam stated “Hardly anyone has left their opinion on our website even though I really wanted to hear what the students are saying. I think most people do not know what we are doing. The Human Rights Center is in charge of educating the school faculties. We also have hosted a few seminars and organized supporters.” She expressed a pity for the lack of communication and misunderstanding between the center and the students saying, “I have talked to the Chairperson of the GCSC. I think it would be possible to have a meeting once we integrate opinions internally in the center.”
