New website for class registration has a catchy design and a better speed than before. /extracted from Udrims

   Recently, the Office of Information has developed a new class registration system. The changes include the new website for class registration, and release of a smart  phone application for it.

   The new website for class registration has changed into student-friendly system. Previously, if students did not pre-register for a certain course, they had to search for the course by the course number, which means they have to find out the course number ahead. However, for the sake of Donggukians’ convenience, the new website system helps students to search courses by typing the name of it. 

   In the past, once students fail to register for a class, they would get a number in accordance to their order of registration. When a student dropped his or her class, another student who got the first waiting number would be able to register for the vacancy. Plus, they had the time limit of 90 minutes, which means when they go over the time limit of 90 minutes, the order would be passed on to the next one. Some had to do it only through computers. This situation has bothered students a lot. 

   As a step to alleviate the situation, Dongguk University made a smartphone application. The release of it has made students to register for the classes a lot easier. Students can access smart phone application to register for the classes. Regarding this, some students showed positive stance. Yoo Ji-su (Sophomore, Department of Industrial and System Engineering) said, “I like the class registration of smart phone application, since we can register for the classes of our waiting list. It was good to be able to register by phone”. However, some students expressed their dissatisfaction for the new system of class registration through Dongguk Bamboo Forest, a Facebook page that Donggukians  share their thoughts. People argue that the new website did not indicate whether the website is for Seoul campus or Gyeong-ju campus. This situation has confused Donggukians. Some argued that accessing the website through multiple website tabs at the same time has been enabled. They argued that students who have done it in unfair manner will get classes as many as they want. Also, some people were not able to see their pre-registered courses. Additionally, they often experienced the notification saying, “The login session has been expired.” 

      In this regard, the General Student Council (GSC) of Dongguk University posted information about course registration for 2018 second semester to sort out the problems and misunderstandings at the website. For the first complaint that the website did not clearly refer to Seoul campus, they revealed it is not true. It is just that the website looks similar to that of Gyeong-ju campus. However, in order to clear up the misconception, the Office of Information changed the design of Seoul Campus website. Also, for the doubt that accessing the website through multiple website tabs to register for the classes, the GSC commented that it is not possible. Although students might be able to access the website through multiple pages, actual registration for the classes with numerous pages is not allowed. Lastly, the GSC has asked the Office of Information to cooperate with the problems that students faced. Despite of some problems, overall evaluation was quite positive. One of the Donggukians, Hong Eun-chan (Freshman, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering) said, “It looks good since the design of the website of class registration has changed. I feel comfortable because I can register for the classes by not typing the course number.”

   The new method for class registration has many advantages such as better system and the release of smart phone application. However, some technical malfunction did cause some problems. Therefore, for Donggukians’ better environment for class registration, problems should be fixed.
