Park Sung-bae, a professor at Stoney Brook gave a presentation about Wonhyo's faith system. "His conception of Buddhist faith is based on his nonsectarian, synthetic approach to Buddhist doctrine," said Prof. Park.
Foreign and Korean professors debated interpretation of Wonhyo's thoughts and how best to internationally promoted Wonhyo's reputation. The debate was held at the Art Theater of DU on the first day of the conference.
On the second day of the conference, which was held at the Seminar Hall in Da Hyang Kwan of DU, Cho Sung-taek and 16 other internal and external translators of Wonhyo's Writings discussed the difficulties they went through when translating his writing into English.
"This workshop concentrated all the efforts of Buddhist scholars participating in the translation of Wonhyo's writings so that they can be recognized in the studies get a right valuation in the field of global humanities." said Kim Yong-pyo, a Prof. in the Dept. of Buddhism.
