On March 22th, the second open hearing of V-APPLE(Jang Su-jeong, Park Kyoung-gun) and COUNTER PUNCH(Han Chae-hun, Kwack Jae-sin) for Student Council of the College of Social Science was held. At the public hearing, they announced and explained their pledges regarding how to respond to the intervention of Jogye order and the education policies by the government.
Both of parties emphasized that the school should not overlook the intervention of Jogye order without the students’ agreement. In respect with how to respond to the intervention, Park Kyoung-gun from V-APPLE said, “We will hold public hearings and debates to discuss the ways for students to deal with the problem. We will carry out campaigns related to this issue in order to share the awareness of the members of the campus. Also, there is a possibility of bringing up the problem to the Ministry of Education in solidarity with other universities.” Han Chae-hun from COUNTER PUNCH agreed with banding with other universities against the corruption of private universities and mentioned, “I will do my best to create an organization to reflect students’ intention in restructuring.”
In the second section, there was a discussion on the two candidate parties’ pledges. In respect with improving environment on campus, COUNTER PUNCH Party commented that they are going to suggest setting up smoking booths in the school, directly managing smoking zone by assigning volunteers, and installing LED mosquito killer in the entrance and hallway of the building. About the issue, Park Kyoung-gun, the candidate for the vice-chairperson of V-APPLE Party suggested, “Since it costs too much to set up and manage smoking booths, we will draw smoking line and conduct campaigns. Moreover, we will install an air cleaner in the study hall of Neungeum.”
Regarding gender equality policies, Han Chae-hoon, the chairperson candidate of COUNTER PUNCH Party, said, “We will make ‘Apple Human Rights Team’ as a permanent organization to help students with their problems related to gender inequality and other human rights violation. In addition, we will recruit members of the executive branches equally balanced in gender so that we can hear the voice from various strata of students.” V-APPLE Party commented that they will establish anti-sexual violence private rules by discussing with feminism groups of the colleges and the GCSC for the next term and hold lectures with a topic of feminism and human rights by making the use of LINC project.
Especially, COUNTER PUNCH Party offered the pledges that can attract participation of international students: holding a festival called “Culture Night with International Students” and running Apple Mentoring Program which consists of international student helpers. Chairperson Candidate Han said, “We have already made a verbal promise with the Student Council of Chinese students about the pledges.”
The electioneering campaign will continue until March 24th and the by-election for the student council of the College of Social Science will take place from March 27th to 29th with the election for the GSC and the GCSC.
