This year, there are some changes to the complete system of Common Liberal Subjects. Four of liberal subjects are going to meet some change: software, Citizens of 21st Century, Regional Studies, and Entrepreneurship & Leadership.

   In the area of software courses, the number of the lectures has increased from one to two and the credit standard of the software area became higher accordingly. The reason why the Common Liberal Subjects have been altered is that Dongguk University is carrying out a software-centric university project. In addition, it is aiming to reinforce students’ ability with software.

   Influenced by the change of software area, to maintain the total credit, Citizens of 21st Century and Regional Studies has been combined into one unit so students may take less courses in those areas. Until 2016, students had to take one class in each of the two areas (two in total), but from 2017, they may take only one course among those two areas (one in total).

   In addition, there is a change in the Entrepreneurship & Leadership, too. Each lecture belonging to the area has been changed to include both subjects: entrepreneurship and leadership. Because of this change, the number of lectures in the relevant area decreased from six to three. Accordingly, undergraduates who had not taken a lecture in this area have been influenced by this change, too. Such a change had been planned in order to teach every student about both entrepreneurship and leadership.

   Kim Hyung-bae, the team leader of the administration office of Dharma College, said, “We expect that abilities regarding software, entrepreneurship, and leadership of the students of Dongguk University will be improved thanks to the changes on the Common Liberal Subjects.”
