Memorial of Mountain Climber Park Young-seok

   On October 15th, remembrance ceremony of Park Young-seok was held in front of the Central Library at 4:30 P.M. Students, professors, and many other people participated to remember the spirit, courage, and effort of Park.

   Park Young-seok accomplished many achievements as a mountain climber and honored Dongguk University. He was the first explorer to earn title of grand slam and listed his name in the Guinness World Records. He made the Korean Route which is a unique route he pioneered to climb Mount Everest. He tried to climb Annapurna, one of the peaks in Himalaya, but while he was climbing he disappeared on October 18th, 2011.

   In the ceremony many people shared their speech to condole the death of Park Young-seok. Jeong Kwang-jin, the president of Dongguk Alpine Club, said “Today we are here to remember Park Young-seok's philosophy and spirit. His challenge will not end as long as we remember him and live on with his teachings.” Jeong ended his speech with a quote “Park Young seok’s challenge be forever!” After the speeches, a little concert was held for his memorial. 

   Kim Ji-yun, a student majoring in statistics said, “In the beginning, I did not really know a lot about Park Young-seok but after the ceremony I was able to learn many lessons he left and I wish I could honor Dongguk University just like he did.”
