On October 2nd, Dongguk University reported that two professors in Dongguk University were nominated for HSS Basic Research Program sponsored by National Research Foundation of Korea. Professor Han Cheol-Ho in the Department of History Education will be funded with 260 million won per year for 5 years, and professor Roh Dae-Hwan in the Department of History will be funded with 260million won per year for 3 years.
Professor Han will work on making database of Korea related documents in United Kingdom and on releasing the documents. This project will be based on the materials in The National Archives of U.K. and in other government departments of U.K. from 1875 to 1960. The main purpose of this project is to gather information about relationships Korea had with other countries in the modern history. It is expected to help students to broaden their perspectives that are mostly based on the United States and of Korean contemporary history and diplomacy.
Professor Roh Dae-Hwan will be working about western learning of the intelligentsia in the Joseon Dynasty. Specifically, interpretation and publication of original documents which were interested by intellectuals in late Joseon Dynasty. Professor Roh Dae-Hwan is planning to gather, interpret, publish, and make database of documents about the western learning so that researchers and the public can easily use them for their needs.
