The Central Library at Dongguk University held the first of its planned regular exhibitions of themed books from March 30th to April 10th. The theme of this year is “Writers who brought honor to Dongguk.” This exhibition, which was held on the third floor of the Central Library, was the first one of this year’s exhibition project. From now until December, ten exhibitions are scheduled, and books will be displayed in chronological order. The first exhibition of this year was about writers from the time when Dongguk University was known as the Myeongjin School and Hyehwa Special School from 1906 to 1946. At the exhibition, about 172 books from the Central Library were displayed. For each future exhibition, about 100 to 200 books will be displayed. The Central Library has run this exhibition since 2013. It is intended to recommend books to students and make them feel interested in reading and using the library. It sometimes selects themes which are timely to the society. One of the last year’s themes was ‘Disaster and Healing,’ and it was chosen as a theme in consideration of Sewol Ferry’s sinking. The Central Library also runs an online version of the exhibition. Students can connect to Booksammae, the reading portal site of the Central Library, and check the list of recommended books. Also, the site is connected to another web site where students can check whether they can borrow the books from the Central Library.
