On Nov. 23, Dongguk University (DU) held a of vision proclamation called New Centennial Dongguk ceremony, which was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary and to envision DU's future. Many famous alumni gathered at The Hotel Shilla for this event.
President Hong Ki-sam proclaimed the 100th anniversary slogan 'Do Dream, Be the newest.' Do Dream, which has a similar pronunciation in Korean to the sound of a drum, means the power of long history, a brand-new start and hope of the future.
DU announced its goals; to make a university which develops enlightened leadership of change by prepared to make necessary changes and who have international ability and strong moral. In addition, they announced ten specific goals including as building a dormitory, renovating Wonheung Hall and constructing a media center in Choongmuro Hall.
"DU was founded in 1906 on the Buddhist principles and with capital from donations. It is the pride not only of Donggukkinans but of all Koreans. So let's roll up our sleeves together to make the 100th anniversary a successful one," the Head of the Board of Trustees, Monk Hyun-hae said.
