Two Majors to Double the Success

A student of Dongguk University has been elected to take part in a program named the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Program. Erasmus Mundus is a program for countries of the EU to exchange students and earn double diplomas in order to support educational co operational projects. Currently, this program is spreading across Asian nations and in Korea, KAIST and Hanyang University are also participating in the program.

Currently, Choi Jung-yoon is majoring in Biotechnology but has been accepted to take part in this program. This program was organized by Joseph Fourier University located in Grenoble. The program is intended to allow participating students to improve their understanding of human health and to design innovative tools by attending programs such as nano/molecular biotechnology, environmental health and computational mathematics. In addition, the program enables students to interact with different students thus providing them with chances to exchange experiences, and establish common high quality standards in education, training and research.

An interesting fact is that those studying in the PhD program will gain a chance to follow a career as a professional researcher in clinical and life sciences in prestigious universities. One of the benefits of attending this program is that it helps provide international work experience to the students. By being exposed to different working cultures, this can enhance a person’s abilities, or help students develop their character.  It is also an opportunity for students to contact professionals in different countries and laboratories. Yet, the most important point of the program is that it grants a joint or double diploma to all participating students.

The program is sponsored by Grenoble University and picks between 3 and 5 students annually and pays for their tuition fees and other financial support. Choi Jung-yoon was offered around 24,000 euro to attend one semester at Grenoble and Torino University. In an e-mail interview with the student, she claimed that this program has allowed her to gain two degrees from two different universities. She is currently working towards gaining her degree and is scheduled to receive it this September, 2013.
