DU Engineering Education Certified by ABEEK
DU's Engineering Education was certified by ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea), modeled on the American ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), on Nov. 16. DU is the first Korean university to receive the certification.
The eight engineering departments which were certified by ABEEK are as follows: Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industry Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Communication Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering and Chemical Industry Engineering.
The ABEEK certification program is expected to give students a high quality education not only in engineering but also in the social sciences.
Last year, DU was selected as a model university of the ABEEK certification program and its curriculum was certified by ABEEK. Engineering Department freshmen have to take BSM lectures related to mathematics, science and computer totalling 36 or more units beginning from last year to be graduated.
Kim Byung-Sik, dean of the College of Engineering, said, "Certified major courses focus on offering students practical knowledge which can be used in their careers. Certification will give DU students an advantage when looking for jobs as the importance of certified engineering education becomes generally known in the domestic industrial society."
