A Special Lecture on "War Between the USA and Afghanistan"
A special lecture, "The terror against the USA : Is it a clash of civilizations or an explosion of constructive violence?" was held by the College of Social Science in the 3rd Seminar Room of the Academic Culture Center on Oct. 29.
This lecture was given by Dr. Johan Galtung, who was a winner of the Gandi prize for Non-Violence in 1995 and now is a Professor at the European Univ, and the University of Tromso.
After showing photographs of the Sep. 11 terror, he said, "The world will never be the same again because of this terrible attack. The attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon were in retaliation for America using its power against poor and defenseless countries."
He said, "A cycle of violence and retaliation causes only deep regret. But it may also lead to a desire to break this vicious spiral of violence. In a world where many suffer from violence, common security and global solidarity are indispensable for human survival."
After the lecture, participants rained questions on him about how we can stop the revenge. "Nations should not rush to action. Rather, dialogue among nations and global education to understand how others think can lead to world peace. Violence only breeds more violence." he answered.
