“Under the reflection of contemplative and creative literature, a manager can have a deeper understanding of life and management.” Professor Yoo, the deputy head of SungKyungKwan University’s Graduate School of Business addressed the audience on September 20 at 6 P.M. The purpose of his lecture was to encourage people to find wisdom and happiness in life and to take some time for self-examination through various humanitarian events.

His lecture was titled “Understanding Humanities – Humanities and Modern Management” At the beginning of the lecture, he said that administration has a close relationship with humanities.

In addition, he discussed the methods of combining modern management with humanities. He emphasized the importance of humanitarian attainment made by imagination through studying history, literature, and philosophy for success in business administration.

According to Professor Yoo, many talented people with exuberant imaginations tend to have fewer opportunities in Korea. He added that there should be a change in Korean enterprise culture.

He finished the lecture by saying, “For those modern managers who should know the importance of creativity and imagination, and have a deep understanding of humanism, humanities and humanitarian attainment will be a great asset.”

Lee Won-Young, a student majoring in English Literature, said, “It was such a great opportunity to listen to a lecture from a professional about the relationship between humanities and business administration and also how they can create a synergy effect when combined.”

Six events under the theme of “Searching for Wisdom and Happiness in Life” were held during “Humanities Week” September 19-24. The week was hosted by the College of Liberal Arts at Dongguk University.
