Dongguk University students become one

Peoples’ Dongguk Movement’s Day was held by the 43rd student body and students’ council from all colleges at Dongguk on March 24th. The purpose of this event was to make ten different kinds of students’ requests, which included tuition fee freezes, organizing a democratic tuition fee council for the school, and to urge for a democratic atmosphere at the school. This event consisted of two parts and each was conducted in Paljeongdo and the main building.

The first part consisted of programs such as Pungmul band’s Gilnori.  There were also street entertainment, celebration performances and the announcement of the ten kinds of student requests. These were conducted in a lively atmosphere. Park Cho-hee, a student attending Dongguk, said, “The performances were very interesting, so I lost all track of time.”

The second part consisted of the submission of the students’ requests to the school and the student representatives’ request for a conversation with the university president.  The second part was conducted in a more serious mood but was still cheerful. Lee Hee-jung, president of the College of Education’s Council, said, “I feel hopeful because this is the first time that the student body and the college students’ council have planned an event and conducted it cooperatively.” He also added, “It is meaningful because the students spoke with one voice and chanted here together.”

Students of Dongguk University could join the event voluntarily and enjoyed their time although their requests were serious and dealt with difficult matters. On this day, all students got united in one.
