Jeonggakwon held an orientation on February 25, and the chorus will begin rehearsals starting in March, meeting every Friday or Saturday at Manhaekwan. The purpose of the Jeonggakwon foundation chorus is to encourage university spirit and to promote good fellowship among students. Also, the foundation chorus conveys the teachings of Buddha through songs, upgrades the status of the university, and improves Dongguk’s image both on and off campus.
All students enrolled at Dongguk, including students on a leave of absence, can apply. All you need is an interest in music. There are five parts: soprano, alto, tenor, base, and piano. The foundation chorus is planning to recruit a total of 20 students. The chorus is scheduled to sing in the Day of Buddha´s Coming festival and during Buddhist ceremonies on Saturdays.
The official chorus is hoping to make the mood lively and perform in honor of the founding spirit. Students can apply to join at Jeonggakwon through e-mail or by phone.
