The Shin Myeong
In all countries, there are representative art performances. The Beijing opera, the kabuki, the marionette are some good examples. If you would like to see a traditional Korean musical event, Shin Myeong would be one of your best choices. Shin Myeong is a well-made traditional performance. It is organized into five parts - Cheo-yeoung-mu, Sal-pu-ri, Tal-chum, Pan-gut, and Fusion music. Cheo-yeong-mu is a Korean mask dance based on the legend of Cheo-yeong, a son of the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea. It is also considered a shamanistic dance as it was performed to drive off evil spirits at the end of the year. Sal-pu-ri is a spirit-cleansing dance. It is elegant and delicate. Tal-chum is a dance performed while wearing a mask and singing. Pan-gut is a kind of Pung-mul-nori which in Korean folk music tradition includes drumming, dancing, and singing. In this part, spectators and players can get united each other. Shin Myuong started February 2nd and it will make an open run at a Mok-dong Angel Theater.
