What do I prepare for joining a bond company? How about exam process?   How much can I raise my TOEIC score?   Is more weight given by certificates of qualification related to finance for going to work in a financial company?  In November, when information on how to enter the financial sector was offered at DGU, students attended the special lecture asked a few questions to obtain information on the concrete. 

   In these days, although university students get more difficult to work for financial companies with economic slump, there is an alumnus who entered Good morning Shinhan Securities Co., Ltd. (a securities arm for the Shinhan Financial Group).  He dreamed of a consultant who help investor his school days.  His name is Lee Sang-gyeong.  He had been admitted through examination into the third year class of DGU in 2005.  Mr. Lee studied economics, which is related to him current job at DGU.  Then, let's hear his successful story.

As soon as he  had been admitted through examination into the third year class of DGU in 2005, he established a investment club named RICH with Donggukians interested in finance in DGU.  "As I  took the chair of the club, I could study about finance," Mr. Lee said.  In addition, when he was university student, he He got a part-time job as paper worker in some finance companie; Mirae Esset and Daewoo Securities Co., Ltd. and so on.  "I could leaned about finance through these activity," He said.  "These experiences help me study a certificate of qualification," he added.   When he graduated DGU, his score was 3.28.  “I thought that many activity is as important as study," he said.

Exam process

There are three steps to prepare for entering.  The first step is selection of candidates by examining your personal histories.  In his case, because   available period of TOEIC is 2years in Korea ,although Mr. Lee already scored 990 on TOEIC, He applied without TOEIC score in the end.  "I wrote up my skill and experiences which I already underwent   for my university life  in the application," Mr. Lee.

  If you pass the first step, you could have attended next step.  The next step is an seminar which is processed from 9am to 9pm.  From 9am to 6pm, you should fulfill Shinhan's mission as form of group project.  "Our team discussed that if Shinhan open a new branch office, where do you establish the branch office; eco city like Dongtan or the developed city like Gangnam?," said Mr. Lee.  And then, from 6pm to 9pm, applicants take dinner with recruiters as most large enterprises.  The recruiters evaluate applicants' sociality.  "When you drink with recruiters, important thing is to match their atmosphere," he added.

  The last is an executive interview.  He prepared a banner which is similar to shinhan's one to show his passion for the company to executives and was asked a few questions.  "They unexpectedly did not ask about the finer points," he said.  The executives asked him "what did you experience for your university life, and what did you feel through the experience?." He could answer gotten experience through part time job at diversity finance companies as yet.  "As soon as I answered, as one of the executives also asked  "Do you have a girl friend?", I also was puzzled how to say," said him.  "I did the best that was in me to show me to their in the interview."

Lastly, please have any advice for job-hunter.

You should plan your goal in a concrete way.  If you want to join in the finance sector, you should decide in the narrow range; a bank, a bond company, or an insurance company.

  Next, you need to experience diversity activities for university school life.  Most students focus on TOEIC and TOEFL for their school life to fit into most companies' basic requirement.  However, you need to experience many activities while in school.  Various activities, career-related tasks like internship, help you to live in the community.

 Lastly, I perceived that most finance companies are looking  for applicants who are honest and faithful.  If you want to work for a finance company, you need to show those qualifications through the application and the executive interview.
