On August 10, DongGuk University(DGU) held the ‘Nara-Sarang Dokdo-Sarang Writing Contest’ under the auspices of the Asia Culture Exchange Volunteer Association(ACEVA). The writing contest was for arousing interests in the ownership of Dokdo. Nearly 1000 students from elementary school, middle school and high school participated in the writing contest in spite of the hot weather.
It was the second 'Nara-Sarang Dokdo-Sarang writing contest'; the first contest was held in Konkuk University in 2007. There was a opening ceremony in Haklim Hall, before starting the writing contest. Go Seung-duk, who is both the chairman of 'Young-to -ji-kimi Dokdo-sarang Committee' and an assembly man of Grand National Party HANNARA, attended the opening ceremony and gave a speech to the students. One of the high school students declared a list of resolutions on Dokdo on behalf of participants.
After the opening ceremony, the writing contest started at 2 pm in Myeongjin Hall and Haklim Hall and finished at 4 pm. In front of the buildings, volunteers publicized DGU and helped them by guiding participants and distributing fans, which has the symbols of DGU and Dokdo on each side of it. While the students were taking their exams, beverages and services were offered to their parents in the waiting room in Dahyang Hall.
"With the help of DGU, we can achieve a successfully contest," said the secretary general of ACEVA. DGU expects this contest will contribute to arousing concerns about Dokdo and improving images of DGU.
