Surfing through the world wide web sites, university students can find a lot of information that they need for their school work, spend their time to have fun, and they also can join club-activities on the web, sharing with others who like to participate in the same field of interests. First, when students have presentations for their classes, all they have to do is simply type a couple of information words on the search engine of the portal site to get the information. They would get tons of information easily. Second, students spend their time to have fun such as chatting, checking the e-mail, computer games, watching movies and TV shows, downloading their favorite music, and so forth. Because the Internet has all kinds of stuff, students can satisfy their curiosity and desire for knowledge, and also they make friends, who are from all over the place, through the web. Last, students can participate in club-activities to share fun and their interests. They have a club meeting once in awhile to get to know other members of the club and share knowledge or information.
The Internet has cons, too. One of the big problems when using the Internet is that students might be taken advantage by others; for example, when students shop at the Internet Shopping Mall, other people, not just hackers, can get their credit card numbers and passwords as well. The biggest problem from using the Internet is that students might get into trouble for plagiarism. Plagiarism is stealing and using the ideas or writings of another as one's own. What the students do is when they find some good stuff, they drag the mouse over the text, copy, paste, and save it on their C drive or floppy disk, and they use the information without reference. In Western universities, plagiarism can get students into big trouble, so students have to be cautious about using information from the Internet.
With all the pros and cons I mentioned above, students have to be careful about what they are doing on the web sites. If they use the Internet as a source of new information or jolly amusement, it would be a salutary pop-culture for the new generation. The Internet is the most powerful influence in today's society, so it is very important to use the Internet properly.
