Funeral Ceremony of Former President
On Sept. 21, a funeral ceremony for the 25th president of Dongguk University (DU), Jeong Jae-gak (1913 ~2000), was held by DU Funeral Committee in front of the Buddhist Statue.
The president of DU, Song Suk-gu, recited the following prayer::"To hold the funeral ceremony of Jeong Jae-gak is very glorious for DU. DU prays for the repose of the deceased.?Many people of all social standings took part in the funeral ceremony, including  the chief director of the Korean Buddhist & Culture Foundation, Seo Don-gak, the former president of Hongik University, Lee Hang-nyoung, and a professor of Korea University, Kang Man-kil.
The late Jeong Jae-gak was the president of DU for about four years (1978~1982). With being concerned about Buddhist culture, he also took on the post of director of Buddhist broadcasting station and the chief director of the Korean Buddhist & Culture Foundation.  He also was a professor at Korea University (1947~1978) and the president of the Academy of Korea Studies (1982~1983).
He majored in history at Kyoung Seong University, and then specialized in East Asia issues.  He was especially famous in the field of Oriental history.
