I had a chance to see the play called Dark Play or Stories for Boys on Sunday, March 2nd 2008. This play was performed by the Seattle U. students and it was definitely one of the funniest plays I have ever watched. It was about the problem with our today’s new technology communication, internet chatting; how it is being used negatively by the teenagers. Because there are so many lies being involved and people who chat to others, they make up the stories or exaggerate to make themselves look good. However, when I walked out the theater when the play ended, it made me to think of my 6th grade at elementary.
I was quite surprised after watching it because I lied to one person badly on the net when I was an elementary student. It was very similar to Nick’s prank when he made up a girl named Rachel and lied to the other dude who thought Rachel was a real person. Yes, I made up a girl named Sally and had so much fun messing with a guy named Bill. He was so perverted online and I was also being perverted by utilizing the girl named Sally. He really wanted to meet Sally for further sexual pleasure but I made up so many reasons that he could not possibly meet me but just chatting online and talking on the phone. I used the payphone to answer his calls make calls and I changed the tone of voice of mine stupidly he totally believed it was a girl’s voice. I initially told him that I had a cold so that I might sound husky and I also used someone else’s pictures to represent ‘Sally.’ He typed that I was sexy and very hot. I was laughing my butt off while looking at the screen of my computer. It was totally messed up because he was actually in love with that made up girl named Sally for over four months. And after a while, I was tired of chatting online. Therefore, I just got rid of the chatting account and never met him again. When I think about it now, I was so immature and had fun while using the new technology in a wrong way.
Hence the play made me guilty because of my past. I realized that cyberspace chatting could be dangerous if they were to get online to meet someone while those chatters creating themselves new identity. It is so easy for them to lie about themselves because the person who chats to does not know anything about his or her background. Moreover it creates am awful issue once the lie gets a super huge and there is absolutely no way to escape from it.
