2008 DU Campus Renovation

2008 DU Campus Renovation

 By. Park Min-woo

Campus Planning Department at DongGuk University(DGU) will do various constructions including extension work on the New Library.
The renovation of Dongguk Hall, which began last year, will be done in March.  And, DGU will construct parking lots between Dongguk Hall and Hyehwa Hall.
Manhae Hall construction is now going on .  Though DGU did not got the law school authorization from the government, it will complete all inner construction.  Also DGU will install an elevator in front of the reading room at Manhae Hall.  The construction will continue during the semester.
Information & Culture Center P building will start extension work, but only design plan is going on because there are still problems.  Unlike expectation, construction scale is small, so it is expected to take about 8 months.
And all of facade will be changed.  DGU will start construction on a new building, Engineering Hall, its place is planned for the empty space beneath the New Library.  DGU will start work this year and the work will be completed in 2010.  And, DGU will do extension work on the 4th floor of the New Library.  The number of reading rooms will decrease because Manhae Hall will be used mainly for a law library.  So DGU plans to create a 4th floor at the New Library to supply study areas.  Now, the design plan is completed and the construction will take about 8 months.
Also, DGU plans to build a dormitory (capacity of 900 students) and lecture rooms on the tennis court beneath the New Library.
A participant of Campus Planning Department said, "The campus will be noisy but I hope that students will be understanding because this construction is planned to provide more study space".
