Have you seen the Chungmuro Intermedia Playground
when you have passed through the station? If you saw
the center, you might have been curious about it. Now
this center is opened completely, so we visited the
Chungmuro Intermedia Playground.......................................ed.
My name is Kim Dongguk, a fashionable good-looking
student at the Dongguk University. I spend a good deal
of time each morning brushing and spraying my hair to
perfection (One never know who one might meet).
This morning, I was headed up to school, passing
through a narrow hall surrounded by mirror at
Chungmuro station. (I always go through that hall
unconsciously checking out my coolness in the mirror.)
I was curious about that hall, so I looked to see what it
was. It was called Chungmuro Intermedia Playground,
the very first one established in Korea. It was opened
last November to let pedestrians experience and learn
creative culture while passing through the subway
instead of going to the central culture center. I can't
miss this kind of cool place!
- Club Vitality -
I first visited The Club Vitality where you can read
exotic magazines and listen to music from the juke box.
In order to read these awesome prints, I had to enroll as
a member (Monthly usage fee was free). As I mentioned
at the beginning, I am very sensitive to new fashion
trends and there were trendy fashion magazines for me
to read. I was as happy and content as can be and fell
asleep on the worm-shaped soft sofa while reading.
What a free place. I love it!!
-Video Viewing Room-
Since I don't make any dough I am always short of
money to live a civilized life. This place is just for me.
You can rent the indi-movies that are not easy to find
1,000 won and pay 500 won for every extra thirty
minutes.
-Vital Theatre-
As I learned about CM (commercial messages)
advertisement last year, I was concerned about them.
Fortunately, the Vital Theatre offers documentaries,
animations, video arts, music videos and CM. I could
watch unknown Korean works in February and this
month Japanese works are waiting for me. If you want
to display your own works, you can borrow this theatre.
The Vital Theatre wants to communicate with you by
unknown works.
-Visual Lab-
When I met my girlfriend, she showed me her pretty
edited pictures which she took with her sweet heart. I
really so envied her I decided to learn about picture
editing in the Visual Lab. The lecture is for beginners.
So I could learn about editing in a day. Now I'm an
artist. I can make my own simple documentaries, video
art and so on. You can also make and edit your party
pictures or something at a reasonable price in this lab.
-Media Oasis-
"Where shall we meet? Do you know where the Media
Oasis is? I'll wait for you while reading books or
watching music videos there." I can take a rest there
freely, so I often meet my friends at this place. I think
it really gives us vital power.
-Flea Market-
It was Saturday and of course I had a promise with one
of my friends to meet at Dae Han Theater to see the
movie "8 miles." On the way to the theater I saw the
Intermedia playground crowded with people. There was
flea market sale where cultural artists sell their art
accessories.
What do you think I did? Yes, you are right. I bought
two fascinating bracelets for me and my friend. This
place is exciting because I can have my very own
accessories, but I want the market to have a variety of
materials and spacious room for pedestrians to pass by
easier.
-Conclusion-
This spring semester has already started. Maybe I will
use this Chungmuro Intermedia Playground more and
more. Because I am a student who doesn't have enough
money but does have a passion about something new. If
you want to go there with me, please call me anytime
except Monday. Why? Monday it's closed.
