The philosophy department, which has been well established for nearly 70 years based on its high academic enthusiasm immediately after liberation, was forced to feel a great sense of crisis from May 23rd. The current full-time professor of philosophy is Yoo Heun-woo, the dean of the department, who is about to retire next year. In short, if full-time professors are not recruited by next year, the philosophy department has no full-time professors. Due to this problem, philosophy majors feel greatly anxious. Since the foundation of the department, professors have always provided a place for learning. Therefore, scholars who do not have a full professor are forced to feel a sense of crisis in guaranteeing their right to learn. In response, the Philosophy Student Association begged for full-time faculty members and asked for a reply containing detailed plans from the school authorities. However, the school only responded that it was positively reviewing them. The philosophy department has waited too long to just wait for the answer. They have already demanded the recruitment of full-time professors for many years, and have not received any answers from the school. Therefore, they began to speak out about the Philosophy Student Council for this year. The Philosophy Student Association said it is clear that the existence of the department is at stake if it does not recruit full-time professors. There was no response from the school to the petition and other efforts, so the student council members and the president of the liberal arts college visited the president's secretary's office to call for a meeting with the president, which took place on August 18th. In the interview, the student council insisted that they should inform the emergency situation involving the philosophy department in detail and strongly emphasize the need to recruit full-time professors to the president. They also tried to reflect the voices of philosophy students who could not participate in the interview. Following the delivery of the opinions and demands of the philosophy department students, the answers of the President and department head were as follows. They promised to publish a full-time professor announcement for the philosophy department and to do their best. However, if the full- time professor recruitment announcement does not have a Table of Organization (TO) with the department of philosophy by March 1st, 2023, students are expected to hold the school accountable.
Philosophy and members are making a lot of academic efforts in limited situations. Philosophical department students' position is that the self-sustaining efforts of undergraduates are not essential as long as they enter school, pay tuition, and belong to the philosophy department. Instead, they should be guaranteed justifiably. They just want to be guaranteed the right to study once they get into school.
