SK Group has announced the abolition of regular open recruitment and the transition to complete occasional recruitment. Most large companies except Samsung Group are hiring employees under the occasional recruitment process. From the perspective of the companies, for hiring new employees from regular open recruitment, much money is needed to hire a large number of people at once. They have no choice but to verify applicants based on the so-called spec(specification.) With the advantage of being able to hire new employees with job competence whenever the company needs it, occasional recruitment is expected to spread more and more. Dream PATH is an integrated management system of core competencies that helps you grow into an outstanding Dongguk talent through various curricular and extracurricular activities. As of March 2021, to integrate every employment-related service that different departments are handling and suit the convenience of the student’s accessibility to employment-related services, Dongguk University renewed Dream PATH website.
At the bottom of the Dream PATH website, you can see the banners of various employment information portals. Dongguk University has been paying fees and partnering with those employment information portals to make it easier for students to get employment-related information. For example, you can get various employment-related information at “Weport” and if you are willing to enter a public enterprise, you can take various lectures for studying National Competency Standards (NCS) at “N.T.P.” If you are curious about realistic reviews, such as the actual atmosphere or welfare of the company you want to enter, your curiosity can be solved through “Job Planet” and “Comento,” where only former and current employees can leave reviews about their company. In preparing for non-face-to-face and AI interviews, an AI interview platform is also available.
Dream PATH runs various employment-related extracurricular programs such as short-term intensive employment practice programs, lectures on employment strategies or job analysis for various companies. For example, throughout this January and February, an online mentoring program with alumni from our school was conducted. We can get job experience while attending university
Companies tend to prefer applicants with job competency and practical experience. A representative example showing this tendency is the recruitment-linked internship, a form of recruitment in which the applicant is hired as an intern, or a trainee first and then converted into a regular employee after the evaluation during the probation period. Since it is a good way to verify applicant’s practical skills, which cannot be confirmed in the general recruitment process, the recruitment-linked internship system is widely spreading. Therefore, having practical experience in the field is a significant advantage in employment. While attending school, we can gain competitiveness in employment through field training or IPP.
The field training program refers to a curriculum based on industry-academic cooperation that provides practical education and practice at a company related to the student’s major. The field training period differs depending on which semester the student attends, four weeks in the seasonal semester and 12 to 16 weeks in the regular semester. The evaluation score is determined based on attendance, field training institution evaluation, and professor evaluation and credit is given to the students who completed a field training program.
Industry Professional Practice (IPP) is a long-term field training program that improves the problems of short-term field practice programs. IPP is a long-term, company-linked field training program for students to get on-site job experience related to their majors for four to six months and get credits by adopting the IPP semester to the existing academic system. Instead of taking lectures at school, students participating in IPP commute to work as trainees and experience practical work in the actual field during the IPP semester. After completion of the training at the company, major credit for the IPP semester is recognized. It would be better to check out whether the program will be helpful for your employment before applying to the program after looking through good reviews of the students who participated in IPP.
As the size of recruitment is gradually decreasing due to COVID-19, competitive applicants with an accurate understanding of the job and company they are applying to, solid knowledge of their major, and practical experience will be able to work in the desired field.
