The second joint meeting of Dongguk University School Founding Committee was held in the Lotus Hall which is on the fourth floor of Dongguk University’s Main Hall on January 12th. Ven. Don Kwan, the chairman of the school founding committee, was the chairman of this joint meeting. There were representatives from Jeonggak Hall, College of Buddhism and Buddhist Academy of Seoul Campus, College of Buddhist Culture and Buddhist Social Culture Academy of Gyeongju campus, Buddhist Sanctuary of Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital and Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital, and affiliated schools.
The meeting began with the introduction of each institution by the representatives. The next procedure was the main issue about their organization. Then they explained about the main performance that they progressed last December 2021 and the businesses that they are planning to carry out in January 2022. The major issues of Seoul campus were as follows. Jeonggak Hall of Dongguk University Seoul campus is going to revitalize the Buddhist ceremony on weekends. They are also planning Buddhist lectures for school personnel. The college of Buddhism is planning a standardization project for Buddhist culture lectures in Dongguk University. Moreover, they will devise educational content for Korean Buddhism globalization. The Buddhist Academy is going to build a digital Tripitaka Koreana, publish various Buddhist journals, plan the 2022 Seoul International Meditation Expo, and produce online lectures for the spread of Korean Buddhism.
Meanwhile, there were also various major issues in Gyeongju campus. Jeonggak Hall of Dongguk University Gyeongju campus will open a new education program for students and school personnel in the first semester of 2022. They are also planning to hold Saturday Buddhist ceremonies both online and offline. The College of Buddhist Culture is going to carry out new businesses for student management, fostering development funds and strengthening the competitiveness of the university. Buddhist Social Culture Academy mentioned reinforcement of academic research and establishment of a platform that linked to the local Buddhist community.
In addition, Buddhist Sanctuary of Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital said that they are going to make the sanctuary safe from COVID-19. Buddhist Sanctuary of Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital is going to reinforce the offline Buddhist programs and small-scale education that is available in social distance policy.
