There is a job that has become busier as people are participating in social distancing and refraining from going out as much as possible because of COVID-19. It is the delivery man. In some cases, the volume of parcels has doubled as people made more delivery orders. Therefore, last March, people started participating in the campaign, “Thank you deliveryman.” Participants prepared snacks or masks for deliverymen with a note of thanks at the front door. Similarly, a campaign for the medical teams who have made great efforts to minimize the damage of COVID-19 was launched recently. The campaign is called the “Thanks to challenge.”
Take a picture to express your gratitude
The “Thanks to challenge” is a campaign launched by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on April 16th to thank medical staff. They created an account on Instagram to introduce the method of this campaign and hold an event for people to participate. People can participate in the campaign by uploading a post with three hashtags, “#Thanks_to_campaign,” “#Thanks_to_challenge,” and “#Thanks_to_medicalteam,” and pictures or videos of sign language, with the meanings of “respect” and “pride.” Then, one tags three people who will continue the campaign.
Participants are gathering good effect
So far, Chung Sye-kyun, Prime Minister, heads of major organizations such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local governments have participated in the challenge. On April 27th, President Moon Jae-in took part in this campaign as well. Other than them, many celebrities, such as entertainers and sports stars, are using their influence and participating in this event. Since lots of public figures have participated, many members of the public were also inspired to participate. There are more than 2.6 million posts with the hashtag, “#Thanks_to_challenge.”
Kim Min-gyung(21), a participant of this challenge, said, “I wanted to be helpful as a citizen since the disease no longer stays at a personal level, and it has become a social event that requires social solidarity. So I get to participate in this campaign in the context of ‘freedom.’” She also added, “In fact, there have been many social changes due to the COVID-19, but I think the strongest thing at this point is the care and effort of the medical teams. I thank them the most at this point and I hope the day will come when the medical teams can return to their original positions as soon as possible.”
Through this campaign, we can convey our respect and support to all the medical staff in our nation who are at the forefront of COVID-19 prevention. In addition to gratitude, it enables us to reflect that we are now able to enjoy a little daily life, thanks to the medical teams. As the warm hearts that participated in the campaign are gathered, all people should make efforts in each position to end the COVID-19 as soon as possible.
