COVID-19 has changed our entire life. Many people miss their life before this crisis and feel depressed because of the sudden change that no one can promise its end. Therefore, Dongguk University has begun various activities for students who cannot come to school due to the Novel Coronavirus.
First of all, relay donations are being made by faculty members of Dongguk University. 34 professors from the College of Humanities started this event by donating 10 million won on April 20th. Also, 19 members of Dongguk University’s policy planning committee joined this donation event on April 27th. This relay donation was continued by the participation of Dongguk University’s labor union and departmental association on May 6th. Also, on May 11th, all professors from the College of Life Science and Biotechnology participated.
Yoon Sung-yee, the president of Dongguk University, expressed his gratitude to the donors caring about students, despite the difficult situation right now. Also, he showed his hope that participation in the donation would expand to support more students in Dongguk University. The use of the donation has not been decided yet, but the donors and the students expect it to be used well for students who are in such a difficult situation due to COVID-19.
Not only was there a relay donation, but also a special scholarship organized for students. Sociology major urgently organized “COVID-19 Special Scholarship” to support students whose living conditions have become difficult because of the Novel Coronavirus. It is said that ten undergraduates and some graduate students who major in sociology will have a benefit. All the students who submitted their applications were examined, and in the case of tie, the income quintiles from the Korea Student Aid Foundation were calculated. Applications were received from May 13th to May 21st at 1 P.M. The results of the beneficiaries were made known only to the selected students without public notice, and the final size and amount of this scholarship will be posted on the department’s website after payment.
Meanwhile, apart from these financial supports, there were some fun events for students. The Student Council of College of Police and Criminal Justice is currently progressing Police Administration’s Weekly Project. Every week, the Student Council presents a mission of various concepts on Instagram, selects the best response among the answers of students, and prizes the winners. The Student Council of College of Police and Criminal Justice said they are holding this event to remind participants of their identities as students of the Department of Police Administration, and to give small fun and happiness to students who are having a boring time due to the Novel Coronavirus. The Student Council expressed difficulties of having to come up with new ideas every week, and the low participation rate due to insufficient publicity to the freshmen. However, as the rounds pass, the participation rate is said to be on the rise.
College of Engineering is also holding events for students. First, they are going to make and publicize a content named “Freshman’s Adaption to School Project” for freshmen who cannot adapt easily to school life due to the Novel Coronavirus. This content contains introducing the facilities, departmental student councils, small groups, and clubs in the Engineering College’s building. Also, the Student Council of College of Engineering hosted non-face-to-face E-Sports Competition. The first competition’s item was an online game titled “League of Legend,” and it was held on May 1st.
Lastly, College of Education organized an event to distribute educational materials to students preparing for the examination for the license of teachers. Also, the Student Council said they are planning to hold two events through Instagram in June.
