The Fault in Our Stars / Kwon Min-jeong
Movie The Fault in Our Stars
/Extracted from 20th Century FOX
The Dongguk Post wants to introduce “The Fault in Our Stars,” a film about two teenagers, Hazel and Gus, falling in love after meeting in a cancer support group. The main character, Hazel has miraculously continued her life since she was a child, being in a situation where she does not know for sure when she will die. Nevertheless, Hazel lives calmly accepting the death that always stays by her side, retelling herself “You have to feel pain.”
In the movie, Gus feels a fear of oblivion as his illness worsens. “This is your life. This is all you have. You have me, you have parents, you have this world. That is all. Even if you say this is not enough, I am sorry, but these are never small things. I want you to be happy with these things,” Hazel says to Gus, who continuously expresses his fear of being forgotten by people after he dies. Like this phrase, we should know that we are already special beings in ourselves.
“You gave me infinity in limited time,” as Hazel says to Gus, time is limited and finite for everyone. We should know the preciousness of time given to us and spend it meaningfully, thanking the people around us. We should feel grateful to those who love us and we should also not forget that everything in the moment is precious.
Through Hazel and Gus, the Dongguk Post hopes for you to realize the importance of every single moment in your life and the small and large happiness in your everyday life.
Little Women / Kang Da-hyun
Book Little Women

The book that the Dongguk Post wants to introduce to readers is a novel titled “Little Women,” written by Louisa May Alcott. Many of you may already know this book, since it is a book of steady popularity, and has been made into a movie several times.
Set in the American Civil War in the 19th century, the novel details the growth and life of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, living in Massachusetts, America. The personalities of the girls are all different. Meg is a kind and traditional girl. Jo is a tomboy who shows enthusiasm to writing, and Beth is a quiet girl who loves to play the piano. Amy is an artist who longs for elegant society. The author portrays the four sisters’ passage from childhood to adulthood in a pleasant and warm way.
One of the parts I found interesting from “Little Women” was that this book is an autobiographical novel of the author. The four sisters of the March family were modeled after Louisa May Alcott and her sisters. Among them, the writer shows her fierce and confident self through Jo, since Jo is her alter ego. The author showed great interest in feminism, and that is why Jo was a tomboy who rejected morals and customs forced on the women.
“Little Women” is well known for talking about feminism, and because of this, some people think it is exclusively for women. But that is wrong. I found that “Little Women” not only talks about feminism, but also love, kindness, consideration, and understanding, which modern people tend to lack. It is time for us to read through the pages of “Little Women,” discover the beauty of love, and warm our hearts.
Hospital Playlist / Eom Hye-rin
Drama Hospital Playlist
/Extracted from tvN
Do you know the “Reply series” that brought back nostalgia(for old memories)? Another work made by producer Shin Won-ho, who drew attention in every work including Reply series and Prison Playbook, began in March 2020. Its title is “Hospital Playlist.” This drama was broadcasted on tvN from March to May 2020. The content of this drama is about ordinary, special stories of people living in a hospital with five friends for 20 years whose jobs are doctors. The biggest merit of this drama is that not only the five main characters but also every supporting character is colorful and attractive. All the characters enriched this drama by maximizing the sense of reality.
Another reason to recommend this drama is a band the five main characters formed. They play songs in every episode that bring back old memories. The songs are played by the actors themselves, which help viewers become more immersed in the drama. The band music, one of the key elements of this drama, also ranks high on the music charts. Hospital Playlist ended on May 28th, leaving afterglow for many people. However, since the producer announced in advance that the next season will be produced, people are looking forward to season 2 with high expectations. If you have not seen the drama yet, I highly recommend watching it before the next season begins.
Shin Won-ho, the producer of this drama, remarked that he wanted to capture the moments of everyday life and show the authenticity of this story. Like he said, the drama “Hospital Playlist” gave viewers warm comfort and healing by capturing the joys and sorrows of various people. The Dongguk Post wants you to watch this drama and have fun and warmth together.
Amazing Saturday: DoReMi Market / Lee Da-young
Entertainment Show Amazing Saturday: DoReMi Market
/Extracted from tvN
Although you know a certain song, you may not know all lyrics of that song. Here is an entertainment show that uses this feature: DoReMi Market! In this show, the cast listen to a certain song’s certain part and dictate the lyrics. Once they get all the lyrics right, they can eat famous foods that come from traditional markets that change every week. However, if there is any misspelled word, half of the food goes to the YouTuber who broadcasts food eating contents. So the cast carefully listens to the song, uses hints, or tries to correct the lyrics by grasping the context of the lyrics. The laughing point is that the process is serious.
There is a snack game in the middle, which changes every week as well. Sometimes the game is novel and fresh so it becomes an issue. For example, cast should guess what a particular song is by just listening to the intro of the song or watching the eyes, nose, and mouth of a celebrity and figure out who it is. Only one person cannot eat the snack and the funny point is that everyone tries their best not to be the loser.
Also, the entire cast are full of individuality, and the chemistry between the cast members is also a fun factor. Therefore, the Dongguk Post recommends this show. Remember to take paper and a pencil to dictate the lyrics when you watch this show!

Online Performance Swan Lake

Since lots of people can not watch performances offline to keep distances from others, appreciating performances online is becoming popular. It became possible to watch various performances through internet or YouTube. The Culture Portal created “Cultural life staying at home” page to provide cultural contents of the national and public organizations. We can watch high-quality performances of various genres such as Ballet, Opera, Play, Traditional Korean Music and so on online for free. As they are free only for a certain period of time, it is important to take note of performance you are interested in.
I saw a ballet performance of Swan Lake on Naver TV. Although I could not feel that I am in the moment, I could appreciate the dancers’ facial expressions and gestures in more detail through the camera. Also, you can get help in interpretation of the scene or share your appreciation with others through the chatting. However, in order not to be interrupted, you would better keep proper distance from the chatting.
There are a lot of wonderful performances prepared for viewers and it is a really good chance to watch such performances for free. Therefore, the Dongguk Post recommend you to watch various live performances online and overcome these tough days.

Nowadays, more and more people are raising companion dogs. However, some dogs are often left unattended or abandoned by owners, and even attacked by them. Raising a dog is not just only about living together, but also growing into a mature human being by getting a sense of mental stability and responsibility through it. Of course, there are many trials and errors to raise a dog in a good manner. To know more stories about people mentally growing up with a dog, the Dongguk Post recommends a Naver webtoon titled, “I gave birth to a dog.”
This webtoon begins when the main character Dana, who is a freelance illustrator suffering from the burnout syndrome, brought a puppy on impulse to overcome her depression. Dana and her sister made mistakes as they were unprepared to raise a puppy. Nevertheless, they became responsible dog owners by continuing studies about raising dogs. The owner’s interest in dogs and proper education were important because they could affect dogs’ personality and behavior. Through the coexistence between the owner and the dog, Dana could overcome her depression and sustain a healthy life with her dog. The moving phrases that change the value of life and intriguing graphics are also good things to see in this webtoon along with the main character’s growth story. Anyone who loves dogs and who needs healing through webtoons, should try “I gave birth to a dog.” This will not let you down.
