About Time / Kwon Min-jeong
Movie About Time
/Extracted from Universial Studio
The movie the Dongguk Post wants to introduce to readers is a movie titled “About time (2013).” This film is about a young man named Tim who gets to find out from his father that he has an ability to time travel. He continuously tries to change his past in hopes of improving his future. From the film, we should point out that people just want to succeed so they hope to go back to the past, forgetting about the fact that the environment changes as well. Tim does the same at first, but as time pasts, he begins to think about his ability by gaining lessons from some events. Tim learns that time travels cannot change everything. Also, he realizes that someone will definitely be affected by the time travel like the Butterfly Effect.
Tim then faces a moment which he must choose between his father, who will soon die due to his deteriorating health, which refers to the past, and his child, which refers to the future. His father gives him great advice and eventually Tim chooses the future.
The first advice Tim’s father gave to Tim was to live a normal life. Given Tim’s ability, the majority probably would use it to make only good things happen. However, the director of the film sends a message to us through Tim’s father that living normal is the most difficult and precious thing. The second advice is to live the day once more. On the second day, you should try to feel and appreciate the little things you have never paid attention to before. This is also difficult because in the busy time, most of us are living on the run of time rather than feeling grateful.
Just like Tim, I also thought time travel was an enviable ability at first, but by the end of the film, I changed my mind. It would be great if we always had the best moments with that ability, but now that I got to learn from Tim that there are so many penalties following along, I realized that it is not only a blessing. I think it is most important to live as hard as possible in the present so that there will be no regrets in the future. Let’s all live an ordinary, but a passionate life.
Self-esteem Lesson / Kwon Min-jeong
Book Self-esteem Lesson
/Extracted from Simple Life
The Dongguk Post wants to introduce you a book named “Self-esteem Lesson.” The author of the book, Yoon Hong-kyun is a psychiatrist who wrote it to inform us of the effect of self-esteem on our lives based on his own experience, and to teach us practical ways to boost one’s self-esteem. The author confessed that he used to get caught up in the feeling of falling behind others, so he wanted to give up everything. Then he got to publish the book with the hope that more people would regain their self-esteem and lead a healthy life, just as he did. After I read this book, it made me think about my self-esteem which I did not have any chance to think about deeply. In particular, I wanted to recommend this book to people with low self-esteem, those who think that their self-esteem has dropped these days, and those who are wondering if their self-esteem is alright.
More and more people in the modern society seems to tend to compare themselves with others especially as SNS has been hugely activated. I certainly feel that there are more people who are comparing themselves to others. As the book says, self-esteem is definitely the answer to how much I like my heart, so one should focus on “self-assessment,” not on others.
This book requires a lot of activities throughout the chapters, which I thought is effective in devising a direct solution that we can apply to real lives. For me, this is the most impressive phrase from the book. “If you want to get out of your lethargy, move first.” If you are in the state of lethargy in which you do not want to do anything, let’s move on and do active things. You are the most precious person in the world, so love yourself first more than anyone.
Rejuvanation / Lee Da-young

People sometimes think of their bygone past, future to come and the final, death. That is a life. How will our lives go? What will happen when we get older? No one knows about his/her upcoming days. Nevertheless, or hence, people have lots of interests in a story of life. This is why there are so many works covering a person’s life. The Dongguk Post recommends this kind of webtoon, Rejuvenation. This is a Naver webtoon, drawn by Gian84. As many people know, Gian84 is famous for his creative imagination shown in his past works. Therefore, this webtoon also has an added virtual setting that the older people grow, the younger they get. That is, they rejuvenate after middle age.
The first episode starts with a story in which some parents who have aged while raising their children become younger after their children’s independence. At the end of the episode, the father ends his life in a newborn state and the mother has a dementia in a young child’s appearance. This webtoon seems to have indirectly expressed that people ask for help like a child as they get older. The cartoonist Gian84 expressed his creative ideas well in his work. People also spoke about his webtoon in glowing terms saying it is a fresh material and has an afterglow. Let’s feel afterglow together by watching this webtoon.
Player 2 / Lee Da-young
Entertainment Show Player 2

Korean entertainment shows have developed a lot, so you can meet various genres of entertainment. There are lots of survival shows such as “Produce 101,” “Show Me the Money” and “Korea’s next top models,” and knowledge show such as “the Genius” and so on. The entertainment show the Dongguk Post recommends today has almost every aspect in it. It is “Player 2.”
As the name suggests, this show is the second season. It can also be interpreted that season 1 was fun and successful. In Season 1, this show set a point of laughter by parodying other broadcasts. For example, popular entertainers seriously but humorously parodied serious hip-hop survival programs such as Show Me the Money. Another element of laughter is dressing up into the concept of a parody broadcast. However, the funniest thing is that the cast should not laugh. Their appearance fee is reduced by 10,000 won for every laugh they make. With the reduced pay, the staff casts many super-luxury guests. That is, it features the actual cast of an original show. As such, these ridiculous factors make you laugh. Season 2 has the same concept as season 1. Although this show ended last March, you should try this interesting show. We hope you will also watch and enjoy it.

What is your hobby? Do not you want to learn something new or have your own hobby? The Dongguk Post recommends “Taling” for someone who are interested in self-improvement. Taling is a talent sharing app where people can learn other’s talent through various classes. There are a lot of interesting classes from hobby, self-improvement to sideline. There are not only professional tutors but also ordinary tutors with their own know-how and communication skills. The tutors are reliable because they are employed on the app after strict procedures. For those who want new experiences, The Dongguk Post recommends one-day classes such as makeup, photography and model experience. If you want to have your own hobby or improve yourself, vocal, video editing, investment, English communication classes will be helpful. Also, Taling has classes for those who want to earn money on the side such as how to be a host of an airibnb or to make my own smartstore. Among these, if there is any class you want to join, you should choose the class hour you want. However, since there are lots of classes, you should be fully aware of each class’s curriculum, objects and tutor’s teaching style to choose a class that suits you. I hope you to find fascinating class and gain wonderful experience.
Stranger Things / Lee Su-yeon
Drama Stranger Things
/Extracted from Netflix
There will be someone who have not seen “Stranger things” before, but there will not be anyone who have seen it only once. “Stranger things” is a Netflix series. It is afoot in Hawkins, Indiana, where a young boy’s sudden disappearance unearths a young girl with otherworldly powers. It may sound ordinary mystery drama, but “Stranger things” is an assembly of creative setup, proper background music, realistic direction and so on. It already has three seasons and the fourth season will come out soon. Since child actors mainly lead the drama, it is interesting to watch children’s improved acting while they are growing up. This drama shows not only how normal people fight against the strange monsters but also how characters mature while they love and care of each other. However, each season shows monsters which are becoming more powerful and disgusting, so I honestly do not recommend “Stranger things” to people who do not like gross things. If you do not care about that monster things or wonder why people are so enthusiastic about the drama, I highly recommend binge watching “Stranger things” before the fourth season starts.
