The final chapter of my book called, “The Dongguk Post” is about to come to an end. The Dongguk Post, where I have spent two and a half years of my university life, means a lot to me. For friends in my major, I always said, “Sorry, I will not be able to join you guys since I have The Post work.” Maybe I have said this phrase hundreds of times. This repetition shows how much I have devoted myself to The Dongguk Post.
Even though the journey was tough, it forced me to grow up in several ways. Keeping up with current affairs in our busy daily lives is not easy, but working at The Dongguk Post helped me to do so. Would I look for current affairs in detail unless I prepare an article? Would I have that much knowledge? Would I be able to know what is going on in this school? The answer is obviously “NO.” However, by covering several issues, I was able to figure out what is going on around the world. I feel I have become a more mature and responsible citizen.
On top of this, interviewing a lot of people was an unforgettable experience. Having opportunities to meet people from all walks of life was a very precious experience for me. As I would start writing an article, regardless of issues, I always needed some experts or professors for consultation. While meeting them in person, I got to widen my perspective. Especially, I remember when I interviewed the director of LiNK, a center for human rights of North Koreans. When the South and North Korea summit was such a hot topic at that time, I had a chance to interview the director. His words touched my heart. He stressed that the military sector should not be the sole agenda to be discussed. The “North Koreans” need to be discussed, too. It was a time that made me wonder what our society might have missed about reunification. As such, there were losses and gains personally. While working as a reporter, today could be tough, but my tomorrow would be rewarding.
