Last month, for three days from May 21st to May 23rd, spring festival “Blossom” was held. This year, a coding club in Dongguk University, “Like Lion” developed a website for festival which shows the information about the campus facilities and festival such as the location of restrooms and booths.
On the first day of Blossom, although there was no performance of celebrity, lots of programs were prepared. At Manhae Square, from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M., visible radio was held and Choi Nakta, Park Ji-min and Han Hee-jun who are from “The Steve Hatherly Show.” were invited as DJs. At 7:30 P.M. to 11 P.M. there also was an e-sports competition. The competition was divided into two sections, League of Legend (LoL) and Kartrider contests. Participants played game on the stage while caster relayed the situation. The first, second, and third places received prize of money and some gift.
In addition, “Duet Song Festival” was held on the second day of the festival. The audience evaluation group assessed the duet teams. On the second and third day of festival, singers came to perform their show: DAY6, Heize, and GFRIEND on the second day, Beenzino, 10cm, and Younha on the third day. However there was an issue with these lineups. There was a controversy in Everytime, and application used by Donggukians to share their opinions and make their class schedule, that the General Student Council(GSC) had only mentioned about those six teams at first. After a while without any pre-information to Donggukians the other two teams were added, called “LEEDA” and “OKASHII.” Also, when the students searched their team name, nothing was found on the Internet even including who they are or what their song is. Therefore, students doubted collusive relationship between the GSC and both of them. Some, on the other hand, claimed that it is a tie-in sale of agency to promote their rookies.
However the GSC’s stance was quite different. According to Kim Jong-heon, president of the GSC, in preparing for the festival, new or unknown artists who wish to appear without paying extra expenses were asked to attend this festival. They selected artists whose concepts do not overlap with existing six lineups as much as possible. Among selected artists, the two teams were invited because the GSC believed they would have a strong understanding of university performance, since these teams have lots of performance experiences in universities.
In spite of these issues, festival was completed without big problems. Also, complaints about the student zone were hardly seen compared to the last year. Lee Jae-eun(Freshman, Department of Advertising & Public Relation), said, “It was my first university festival. I really got to know that festival is so exciting, reducing the stress of studying for a while. Almost every Donggukian was enthusiastic about participating in the festival. What a wonderful campus life!”
