Monk Hyun-gak held a lecture and conversed with Dongguk University (DU) students at the Main Auditorium on the 13th of November.
In 1989 when he was studying Religion Philosophy at Harvard and searching for the truth, he happened to attend Monk Soung-san's lecture and which led him to become a Buddhist priest. In 1999 he published "Manhang; From Harvard to Hwagaesa" a book concerning his self-discipline which became a best seller writer in Korea.
Monk Hyun-gak lectured about "What is True Religion." He said that in this westernized society, people are not satisfied with their lives although they live in a technically developed world with wealth and fame because they don't know what is real satisfaction. He said real satisfaction comes from self-discipline, which is the main point of all the religions.
Monk Hyun-gak ended his one hour lecture by saying, "Whatever your religion is, you shouldn't have blind devotion. You should study the religion first and then discipline yourself."
Monk Hyun-gak is now planning to write a book about Jesus Christ's thoughts, which was barely known and are incorrectly translated in the bible.
