On April 4th, there was a press conference held by 16 students of clubs and student councils of Dongguk University including KungKwang, Dongguk Women’s Action Corps, and the Department of Advertising and Public Relations in front of the Main Hall at 12:30 P.M. to censure the school and the Human Rights Center. There were doubts about sexual violence by Cha Seung-jae, the professor of Graduate School of Digital Image and Contents, last February. However, the school and the Human Rights Center are not giving any information to students about this incident. In 2017, there was a case about sexual violence through a group chat in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations. There was a retrial after six of the assailants got indefinite suspension from school. However, students did not get notice about the process and Dongguk University excluded students from solving the case. Ye-jin, the representative of KungKwang, was the host and students shared their statements to start the conference.
Yeu Ji-won, the Deputy Chairperson of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, stated, “It is clear that the school took care of every problem that happened in the student community. However, are the problems really solved? I think that students should be the ones to be at the center finding solutions and making a university where people cannot do harm to others. It is important communicating with students!”

The participants hoped that the school revises the closed regulation with opinions reflected by students. They require to solve the problems together and be noticed about the processes Dongguk University is taking. After the students stated about this situation, they went to deliver the official document to the Human Rights Center and wrote complaints on post-its to stick on the door of the Professor Cha Seung-jae’s office for him to see them.
