In the first semester of 2017, a counseling program “Doran Dorang” has been operated by Jeonggakwon. It is a program that helps Donggukians overcome their hardships in the Buddhist approach: faith and practice.
The counseling program “Doran Dorang” takes place every Monday from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Faith and Practice Counseling Room located in front of the Jeonggakwon office. Hosted by Ven Jinwoo Sunim, the participants can talk about their worries in various areas such as getting jobs, studies, and relationships and find out how to overcome the hardships by communicating with each other while having a cup of tea.
“Doran Dorang” was designed to talk and listen to the school members’ worries and be a comfort to each other by sharing their experiences. For this purpose, it was test-operated among the teaching staff during the last semester. With the participants’ positive assessment about it, it became a regular program from this semester by expanding its purpose to include not only teaching staff but also students.
Ven Jinwoo Sunim, the Buddhist Chaplain, said, “According to a Buddhist saying, when three fools get together, they can make Manjusri Bodhisattva, a Buddhist saint with great wisdom. In other words, by listening carefully to the problems other people have, we can make the first base to solve the problems so that we can step forward to overcome such negative situations, even though it takes long time.”
Every Donggukian and the faculty can join “Doran Dorang” just by applying for it at the Jeonggakwon office at any time from April 3rd.
