Dongguk University, is trying to protect women’s rights in the campus. As an effort, it has
hosted seminars on Mondays at the General Coed Student Council (GCSC) room. On
October 10th, there was a seminar regarding a book “Gender and Society.” The members of
“Womjikim” discussed about standards to distinguish men and women, and misogynic
instances started from male oriented evnironment. Through hosting such seminars, they are
trying to study more about feminism.
“Womjikim” is a network of feminism that was created to substitute for the absence of the
GCSC. Now, it belongs to the General Student Council (GSC) and does various efforts to
protect women’s rights. Not only did they hold seminars about feminism, but they organized
self government committee and distributed self government rules during the school festival
in the first semester of 2016. Moreover, they have organized activities regarding social
occasions such as cherishing Gangnam Station murder case, joining to expose illegal hidden
cameras from the restrooms and so on.
In addition, they have discussed about a system to report crimes such as dating violence
and sexual assault. As a result, they decided to make a manual which implies how students
can take action when they face such cases. The manual making will be finished until the third
week of October and then the posters regarding the manual will be posted.
Kook Yoonna, the chairperson of “Womjikim” said, “Our future plan is to compose the
GCSC because there are some candidates for it. Also, our definite goal is to protect
Donggukians’ physical safety and their inner minds.”
