The Power of Positive Thinking

In Job Support
"Please, recommend an alumnus or alumna who got a job recently."
  "Well......."
Just then, one student approached and said,
"I know one person, he is really good man. I highly recommend him......."

Kang Kyung-woo is a senior in the Dept. of Computer Engineering. He will be to graduate school next February and then will work at LG Electronic Mobile Telecommunication Research.

■ School Life ■
Kang Kyung-woo entered Dongguk University in 1997 with three aims; becoming a master at computers, doing social service and meeting a girl friend. As his wished, he joined Hansol, a united service group . "The Internet wasn't widely used then. It was hard to know anything about various societies; so I joined a very active group," Mr. Kang said.
After one year, he enlisted in the army. In his sophomore year, he started studying about his major and joined Jinggumdari, a school network group. This gave him an opportunity to teach juniors combined employment preparation. Now, Mr. Kang gives lectures in which he gives juniors good tips.

■ Employment Diary ■
  "Wow, you are very active!"
Now, Mr.Kang is an operator for four groups: Career community "Myway21," community union "Creven," united service group "Hansol" and human network within Information Industry College at Dongguk University. Mr. Kang said he learned merits and demerits through his experiences. He is not an exception during this depression; so he suffers from employment difficulties.
"I couldn't help taking time off from school for employment. During that time, I lived very eagerly and positively. Above all, I looked back upon myself and found my weak points." He joined a camp under the sponsorship of the career community Myway21. He had a trial interview before 200 people and learned about his problems. After this Mr. Kang changed his look and even his accent. When talking with people, he would asked them which tone of his voice was better. And he read a newspaper aloud everyday. His voice and look was changed through his endeavor. "Before I couldn't speak confidently like now. I was reborn as a confident man. It didn't come easily, it was gained by my efforts. Most freshman and sophomores think employment is far away from them. That's wrong; we need to study society early. I'm a common student who has never gone abroad. I just do my best to study my major and to get much information."

■ His Knowhow ■
Kang Kyung-woo used to utilize the mailing service "Ye Byung-il's Economy Note (www.econote.co.kr)." He said it offers much useful information related to employment and living. Through this service, he had a chance to reflected on himself.
Mr.Kang stresses the importance of studying the economy. "The economy reflects the main points of society. This is why I have read an economic newspaper for three years. It's something you should do,too. Entrepreneurs prefer a person who has extensive knowledge about social trends. Taking lectures about management is another good method." He did his best to get both knowledge and various experiences. He participates in meetings with people in there thirties and forties' (most interviewers' age)  to know their thoughts.
He has never gone abroad and he doesn't have any special qualification. Nevertheless, he got a job in the challenging R&D field. He thinks he got the job because he did three projects for six months at the Yonsei Academy of Calculation Education and learned knowhow at Micro-Robot Design Education Center. This helped him in his job interview.
Although Kang Kyung-woo has no experience studying or traveling abroad, his ambition to enlighten himself is very conspicuous. In this difficult era of getting a job, this factor made him a success.
