On the 26th of March, a populace rally represented by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions was held at the Seoul Station square, protesting against the law enforcements of the current government before the general election in April. The General Student Council, the General Representative Council, Dongguk University’s central clubs “Marx Philosophy Research Society” and “Dallagin” also participated in the event among the other 200 social associations.

The protest started off with a Nanta performance, which then led to the mass chanting of phrases such as “Denounce the violence of the government” and “Judgment for President Park.” Then, the protestors began marching from 4:30 P.M. While the march started from the Seoul Station square to the Cheonggyecheon Stream, the GSC, GRC, “Marx Philosophy Research Society” and “Dallagin” joined it.

The chairperson of the GSC, An Dre, explained that agendas such as the Sewol ferry incident, the farmer Baek Nam-ki incident, and the Comfort Women problem are all matters which should not be limited to an individual, but to all citizens, especially at this time with  the general election coming soon.

The chairperson An said, “We thought that addressing various social agendas are the roles that we should take as university students. We decided that it is important for us to make our voices as students and give strength to and draw more attraction from other students as we speak.” He added, “We hope to serve as the foundation for changing the world into a better place and I hope that the rally would expand further in the future.”

Meanwhile, the rally, which embarked its first on the November 14th 2015, has been constantly held by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, protesting against various issues, such as demanding further investigations for the truth of the Sewol ferry incident, suspension of the recently enforced Labor Reformation and rescission of the settlement upon the comfort women negotiation.
