On March 15th 9A.M., Dongguk Promotion Committee for the Future held a press conference claiming that the board of directors should be reformed in a way to reflect the voice of students in Dongguk University. While Jogye temple playing a voice chanting Buddhist scriptures and police force blocking students.
The committee appealed that nothing has been changed since the resignation of directors of the board because replaced directors were also chosen by Ven Ja-seung Sunim, the executive chief of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order. Andre, the president of GSC pointed out, “Candidates for our board of directors are disastrous. They are just the same as Ven Ilmyun Sunim with different name and face. This is not even a vote, this is just higher ups pulling strings.”
So the committee came up with the idea of reforming the system. Kim Hee-gun (Sophomore, Advertising and Public Relations) said, “Same incidents will repeat in this corrupt system” and Kim Ye-jin (Sophomore, Law) added , “Through the process, we felt the necessity for fundamental reformation of system”
At the end, Jo Yoon-gi (Senior, Political Science and Deplomacy) commented about the chanting and blockade, “For me that chanting is not delivering the words of Buddha, it is just three year old whining with his ears closed”
The conference ended by Andre, the president of GSC, delivering the request document to Lee Se-yong, the head of Religious Affairs Office of Jogye Order. A conflict occurred between the students and the police force while delivering the document.
